Terry Weston a local resident and Chairman of Barton Community Development Project writes: "The progress made with this project over the last three and a half years is phenomenal. The project has been resident led from the outset and has continued to gather more support from local people. We have funding until March 2008 to keep working towards our long term objectives. So, there is always scope to welcome more local people to the BCDP Project Management group". |

Barton Community Development Project (formerly known as Barton Resident Research Project), is a grass roots resident led project which has supported and encouraged local people to identify and address local issues within Barton to improve the area for everybody. The project is managed by residents and employs a small part time team, which includes residents, who are responsible for implementing a Community Action Plan. Some of the successes have been:- setting up a junior youth club, producing a community handbook, running dance and arts projects, influencing local strategic decision making which has resulted in the area gaining 'Street Wardens' and improved community policing. The project has successfully secured funds from The Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief. Additionally it is receiving continued support from OCHA and Oxford City Council, to carry on implementing the action plan over the next three years.
